Overview

If you own a Palm handheld, you can synchronize, or transfer, items between Microsoft Entourage X for Mac and your handheld. When you synchronize, Entourage copies the contacts, tasks, notes, and calendar events to and from your handheld. For information about using Microsoft Handheld Synchronization, see Synchronizing Entourage data with Palm handheld data.

Important

  • If you are running Microsoft Exchange Update for Entourage X (Office v. X 10.1.4), you must install Microsoft Handheld Synchronization version 10.1.4.

  • Microsoft Handheld Synchronization version 10.1.4 works with Microsoft Office v. X 10.1.2 Update or later.

  • Microsoft Handheld Synchronization can be used with the following programs for Palm OS 3.x or later: Datebook, Address Book, Memo Pad, and To Do List. It is not compatible with the following new programs included on handheld devices such as the Zire 31, Zire 72, Tungsten E and Tungsten T3: Calendar, Contacts, Memos, and Tasks.

System Requirements

  • Supported Operating Systems: Apple Mac OS X
Before you can install Microsoft Handheld Synchronization for Entourage X, the Microsoft Office v. X 10.1.2 Update or later, must be installed on your computer.

In addition, your computer must meet the following minimum requirements:
Processor: Macintosh PowerPC.
Operating system: Mac OS X version 10.1 or later.
Memory: 128 MB of RAM.
Hard disk: 5 MB of available hard disk space temporarily required to complete installation.
Programs: Palm Desktop software version 4.0 or later and a handheld device with Palm OS 3.x or later running the following programs: Datebook, Address Book, Memo Pad, and To Do List.

Tip If you're not sure whether your computer meets these requirements, you can display information about your computer by using the Apple System Profiler program included with Mac OS X. To start the program, open the Utilities folder in the Applications folder on your hard disk, and then double-click the Apple System Profiler icon.

Instructions

Before you install this download:
  • Palm Desktop 4.0 is required for Handheld Synchronization to work properly. If your handheld does not support Palm Desktop 4.0, Handheld Synchronization with Entourage will not work. Check with your handheld manufacturer for information about support for Palm Desktop 4.0 and Mac OS X.
  • Quit any other programs that are running, including virus-protection programs, because they might interfere with installation.
  • Make sure Aladdin Systems StuffIt Expander version 6 or later is installed on your computer. If an earlier version of StuffIt Expander is installed on your computer, you might not be able to install this download.
To install this download:
  1. On your hard disk, double-click the file that you downloaded to expand it.
    Depending on the Web browser that you are currently using, this step might be performed for you automatically.
  2. Double-click the Handheld Sync Installer to start the setup program.
  3. Follow the instructions on the screen to finish installation.
  4. If the installation has completed successfully, you can delete the Handheld Sync Installer.sit file and the Handheld Sync Installer program from your hard disk.
To remove this download:
Handheld Synchronization for Entourage X does not include an uninstall feature.

Note: Two different file types are available for this download, MacBinary (.bin) or BinHex (.hqx). A .bin file is typically smaller than an .hqx file, but is less compatible with earlier Macintosh systems, such as Mac OS 7.0, 8.0, and 8.5. An .hqx file is typically larger, but is more compatible with earlier systems.
