Overview
Intra-site Automatic Tunnel Addressing Protocol (ISATAP) support in the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP with Service Pack 2 operating systems allows you to deploy Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) connectivity on an existing Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) network without having to configure or upgrade existing routers to support native IPv6. This white paper describes how ISATAP works, how to deploy ISATAP with Windows-based ISATAP hosts and routers, and additional ISATAP deployment considerations. This white paper assumes knowledge of both IPv4 and IPv6 and an understanding of IPv6 transition technologies.
