Overview

From a central location, administrators can run the Office Update Inventory Tool on client computers to find out which Office updates have been applied, which Office updates are available to be applied, and which Office updates can be applied only to an administrative installation point.

System Requirements

Note While only Windows Installer version 1.x is required for the detection operation, Windows Installer 2.0 is required for installation of Office 2000 updates released after Service Pack 3, and Office XP updates released after Service Pack 2.


An Extensible Markup Language (XML) parser is required on each computer that runs the conversion utility (convert.exe). A parser is included with Internet Explorer 5.0 and later. If you are running earlier versions of Internet Explorer and you cannot install Internet Explorer 5 or later, you can download and install a stand-alone version of the Microsoft XML Parser (MSXML) 3.0 SP4 from the MSDN Web site.

Instructions

  1. Click the Download link above to download the Invcm.exe file.

  2. Download the latest Inventory Tool Catalog file (invcif.exe) from the Inventory Tool Catalog page.

  3. Follow the instructions in the Office Resource Kit article Office Update Inventory Tool 2.2 Checks Installations for Updated Status to extract files from Invcm.exe and Invcif.exe. Follow instructions in the article on how to use the tool.
