This update to the Guidance Automation Extensions - February 2008 Release addresses the following issues:

Registering and Using Guidance Packages on the Visual Studio Experimental Hive

Registering and/or using a guidance package in the Visual Studio Experimental hive fails when Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1 is installed. This is now fixed.

Regular Expression Evaluation Enhancements

When an operation (or a message) was created, the duration of the creation task was directly proportional (and much greater than linear) to the length of the operation name. This update offers a performance improvement. See Additional Information section.

Instructions


  1. Click the ‘Download’ button to commence the download.

  2. Once the download dialog appears, do one of the following:

    1. To start the installation immediately, click Open or Run this program from its current location.

    2. To copy the download to your computer for installation at a later time, click Save or Save this program to disk. Once you are ready to install Guidance Automation Extensions for Visual Studio 2008 and Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1 Update (GAXP1409), double-click on the saved file.

  3. Follow the instructions in the installer program, including accepting the End User Licensing Agreement.

Registering and using guidance packages in the Visual Studio Experimental hive now work properly with the Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1.

Regular Expression Evaluation Enhancements

This update provides a rewritten regular expression service, the ExpressionEvaluationService2 class and corresponding EvaluateExpressionAction2 and ExpressionEvaluatorValueProvider2 classes which include new regular expressions that were optimized to be run by the .NET Framework regex engine, thus performing much faster than the original ones.

The original classes are still included in the GAX codebase for backward compatibility with existing guidance packages.
