Making Microsoft Dynamics AX Enterprise Portal Work on Microsoft Windows Server 2003

Updated: November 15, 2004

Microsoft now offers a new hotfix, upon request, that enables Microsoft Dynamics AX Enterprise Portal to work with Microsoft Windows Server 2003. The hotfix specifically applies to Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 6.0, which is included with Microsoft Windows Server 2003.

You can learn more about the hotfix, as well as how to request it, in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 839003.

After applying the hotfix, there’s one more step for getting Microsoft Dynamics AX Enterprise Portal to run on Microsoft Windows Server 2003: you need to allow Active Server Pages in the IIS Manager. You’ll find the steps to accomplish this outlined in Knowledge Base article 315122.

By default, when IIS is installed on any version of the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 family, IIS serves only static content (in other words, HTML). To permit IIS to serve dynamic content (which is required for Microsoft Dynamics AX Enterprise Portal to function), your organization’s administrator must unlock this content in the Web service extensions node in IIS Manager. To do this, the administrator must either enable a pre-existing Web service extension or add a new Web service extension.

To permit IIS to serve content that requires a specific ISAPI or CGI extension already listed in the Web service extensions list, follow these steps:

Open IIS Manager, expand the master server node (that is, the Servername node), and then select the Web service extensions node.

In the right pane of IIS Manager, right-click the extension that you want to enable—in this case, Active Server Pages.

Select the Allow check box.

Note: This fix is not fully supported yet. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Windows Server 2003 service pack that contains this hotfix.
