Editing the new sales process

If you have the Microsoft Dynamics CRM December 2012 Service Update, and if your organization has installed the Product Update for sales and service, or if your organization's subscription began after December 2012, you can now change the sales process through the user interface. Using the Process Control Customization Tool, you can add, edit, and remove stages, steps, and fields anywhere in the process. You’ll see your changes right away, and all users will now work with the changed process. The process cannot be modified for individual users; it can only be modified globally.

Can I do this task?

This task requires Write access to the Process Configuration entity. By default, Sales Managers, System Administrators, and System Customizers have this privilege, but if you have customized these roles, you will need to add it.

To change stages, steps and fields in the sales process

  1. From any Lead or Opportunity form, click the more commands button (shown as: ), and click Edit Sales Process.

  2. To add a new stage, click the “+” sign next to Stages.

  3. Provide a name for the stage, and then add steps and fields as needed. To move the stage to where you want it to appear in the process, click the up and down arrows in the lower left of the tool.

  4. To add a step within a stage, click the “+” sign next to Steps, provide a name for the step, and then move it to the desired place in the order. You can do this when editing the process for a Lead, but not for an Opportunity. The process you define within the Lead is the process you’ll use for Opportunities.

  5. The place to add new fields appears automatically next to each new step. To select the type of field you want for a step, click New Field and select from the drop-down list that appears.

  6. To save your changes for all users, click OK. To discard your changes, click Cancel.
