After you’ve chosen to install the most recent version of product updates, you’ll have a few steps remaining to set up Yammer.
Can I do this task?
This task requires system administrator privileges on Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online, and you’ll also need to have verified system administrator privileges for your organization’s Yammer account. You’ll see a general error message if you try to configure Yammer without verified administrator privileges. You’ll also need both the prvWriteOrganization and PrvConfigureYammer privileges. For non-administrator users, these are not available by default, and must be added.
Overview of Yammer installation
Install the most recent Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online product updates. See Installing Product Updates.
Sign up for a Yammer Enterprise account, and note the name of the network you receive there. , Visit the Yammer site.
Connect your Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online organization to your Yammer network.
By default, you’ll be given a basic set of record types that will post automatically to your Yammer conversation stream; as you set up Yammer you’ll be able to change which record types will post automatically.
| Warning |
|---|
-
Installing Yammer is permanent. You will not be able to replace it with Activity Feeds later. You should sign up for a trial Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online organization you can use to preview the Yammer functionality if you’re unsure about whether to install it.
-
If you’re using Activity Feeds, keep in mind that to refer to it later, you’ll need to search using Advanced Find, rather than seeing old data automatically appear in your Yammer conversations.
-
You can’t use Yammer and Activity Feeds simultaneously. You can use only one or the other.
-
If you select a default Yammer group for users to post to from within your organization, and delete the group in Yammer, you’ll need to change the group association in your organization. This is because the group must be deleted in both your organization and in Yammer.

If you are in Microsoft Dynamics CRM for Outlook, you will not be able to use the Get Yammer button. |
Set up Yammer
In the left navigation pane, choose Settings, and under System, choose Administration.
Choose Yammer Configuration and follow the instructions that appear on the screen. You’ll need to accept Yammer’s terms, note which Yammer network has been set up for you, and connect your organization to it.
After your network and your organization are connected, you’ll see a confirmation message at the bottom of the screen. To change which record types can post automatically to Yammer, choose Set/Edit message rules. On the Post Rules Configuration list that appears, make sure that only the records you want enabled are marked Enable for Yammer.
Entities and rules available
The entities and rules in the following list are available in Yammer. The ones that, by default, are enabled to post automatically are indicated. If you want to enable a given entity or rule type for Yammer, make sure that it is activated and that the types of auto-posts you want to see are enabled before you save. Inactive entities can be enabled, but they will not start to post until they are both activated and have different auto-posts enabled.

-
All system posts are stored in Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online.
-
If the Post to Yammer Activity Stream rule (or posttoyammer attribute) is set to True in Post Rules Configuration, that activity will post to Yammer.
