Put an RSS feed to work for you

Updated: April 20, 2007

By subscribing to RSS feeds, you can get instant notification when the Microsoft.com Web site changes information or publishes new content. RSS, or Really Simple Syndication, is an efficient way to have information, such as Microsoft Dynamics CRM articles, blogs, and newsgroup messages, delivered to you.

To get Microsoft Dynamics CRM information updates, all you need is an RSS newsreader program and a Web page that supports RSS. RSS lets you select the information that you want to read. This can limit the time you spend surfing the Web to determine what information has changed recently.

How RSS works

When you subscribe to an RSS feed, you receive headlines with the associated link to the originating Web page in your newsreader. You must be online to view the content that you subscribe to.

You subscribe to an RSS newsfeed by adding the subscription to your newsreader or by subscribing directly from a Web page that is “RSS-enabled.” You know that a Web page is RSS-enabled if the page has the RSS icon next to a set of links or headlines.

The following steps work with Windows Live to add a newsfeed. Windows Live is a Web service from Microsoft that, in addition to many other features, can be used to receive RSS newsfeeds. For information about how to subscribe to an RSS feed for a different newsreader, view your RSS newsreader’s Help.

1.

Visit and sign in to the Windows Live Web site (www.live.com). If you do not have a Windows Live ID, you must set one up by following the sign-up steps described on the Windows Live Web site. The Windows Live ID and Windows Live Web page are free services.

2.

On your Windows Live personalized page, click Add stuff, and then click Advanced options.

3.

Under Advanced options, in the Subscribe to a specific feed by entering the URL below box, paste or type a URL that links to an RSS feed, and then click Subscribe. (Some examples for RSS newsfeed URLs that provide information about Microsoft Dynamics CRM are listed in the following table.)

4.

To view the latest information from your feeds, return to the www.live.com site.

Some RSS newsreaders let you subscribe directly to an RSS feed by clicking RSS next to a set of links or headlines. To complete the subscription, follow the prompts offered by your newsreader.
