The latest version—Microsoft Dynamics SL 7.0—empowers your employees, managers, customers, and vendors to be even more productive. It also helps increase effectiveness by providing the tools your people need to view and process data based on the permissions that you establish.

Enhancements to this latest version include new RoleTailored menus that make it easy for your people to focus on functions they need to do their jobs more efficiently. New reporting tools also help people better understand what is happening in the business. Microsoft Dynamics SL 7.0 is built with Microsoft Visual Studio 2005, providing new tools for developers and interfaces to products like Microsoft SQL Reporting Services.

New features in Microsoft Dynamics SL 7.0

Foundation

  • Microsoft Dynamics SL 7.0 is written in the latest version of Visual Basic 2005, making it .NET compliant.

  • Integrated Windows Authentication associates each user's computer logon to their Microsoft Dynamics SL 7.0 logon.

  • The intuitive user interface is similar to the 2007 Microsoft Office system.

  • Configure RoleTailored menus and home pages.

  • Create and display custom home pages for people using the application.

  • The business solution is compatible with Windows Vista and the 2007 Microsoft Office system.

Financial management

  • The Pay-When-Paid feature releases subcontract vouchers to be paid only when the associated customer invoice is paid.

  • The Quick Send feature enables Electronic Document Delivery of purchase orders and invoices.

Project management and accounting

  • Foreign currencies and a Value Added Tax (VAT) line item are now accepted in the Expense Report entry program.

  • Enhanced multi-currency, Scheduled Billings, and Billing by Percent Complete features can produce bills in the currency and format of each project.

Service series

  • You can enter invoice line types and preventive maintenance tasks in Generate PM Service Calls.

  • Specify a different customer ID on a service contract attached to a master contract in Service Contract Entry.

  • Graphical Dispatch Board (SD.900.00) now also filters the views in Dispatch-View Maintenance.

Microsoft Dynamics SL Business Portal

  • No logon is needed to gain remote access to Microsoft Dynamics SL Project Maintenance program when using Business Portal.

  • New access to Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 features includes blogs, wikis, and RSS feeds.

  • Microsoft Dynamics SL Business Portal is compatible with Microsoft Windows SharePoint Server 3.0.

Reporting and analytics

  • Analyze and track up to 900 business activities within the Microsoft Dynamics SL database.

  • Access reports written in SQL Server Reporting services for SQL Server 2005 directly from Microsoft Dynamics SL 7.0.

  • New Microsoft FRx 6.7 SP9 enables Microsoft FRx 6.7 compatibility with Microsoft Dynamics SL 7.0.

What’s new in the Feature Pack for Microsoft Dynamics SL 7.0

The Feature Pack for Microsoft Dynamics SL 7.0 focuses on employee and team collaboration and productivity in order to help companies improve efficiency – in overall usability as well as with commonly used service and financial tasks. The capabilities of Microsoft Dynamics SL and Office Project 2007 are brought together in Office Project Professional and Business Portal to deliver financial insight to project managers, and the task of keeping project management and accounting connected and in sync is smoothed. Teamwork can be improved with easy access to project, vendor, and customer documents. You can easily create document workspaces and repositories when creating new projects or adding customers or vendors, without the day to day involvement of the IT team.

With these new and improved features, your people can enjoy increased ease of use and improved productivity.

  • Hard close. You now have the option to allow or prevent postings to previous periods or fiscal years by using the hard close feature to lock down prior period and fiscal year reporting.

  • Inquiry screen sorting. People can find the information they need by sorting selected data simply by clicking on the column heading.

  • Business date security. Additional security to control access to the business date will be available only to the administrator role and to those who have been granted update rights so that entries reflect the current business date.

  • Payroll void check enhancement. You can now void payroll checks from different periods in the current period and reissue a payroll check. In response, a warning prompt confirms when the check will be voided.

  • Graphical Dispatch Board. The Graphical Dispatch Board provides new e-mail, search, and view options to enhance the dispatch process.

  • DocShare – Publish to SharePoint. The new DocShare capability can create and connect SharePoint sites related to Microsoft Dynamics SL customers, vendors and projects, enabling team members and employees to easily access certain project and customer documents. The types of documents that can be published to a SharePoint site include:

    • Flexible billings invoices.

    • Accounts receivable statements.

    • Order management order confirmations.

    • Order management invoices.

    • Order management shipping notices.

    • Purchasing print purchase orders.

    • Flexible construction billings.

  • Project Flexible Time Entry for Business Portal.Time entry can be made for multiple types of entries (overtime, regular time) as well as provides the ability to enter multiple notes such as invoice comments and internal notes, and you can now view an expanded date range. New flexible time entry features include:

    • Flexible time periods display and entry: Day, week, bi-weekly, semi-monthly, monthly (based on week maintenance setup).

    • User-definable interface can display multiple weeks and timecards at once.

    • Entry of time against the new subtask feature.

    • New notes/comments entry capability.

    • Audit trail capability.

    • Modifications to timecard print and time and expense screens to accommodate time periods greater than seven days.

  • Microsoft Office Project 2007 Connector. The new Microsoft Dynamics SL 7.0 connector to Microsoft Office Project 2007 efficiently brings together project accounting and project management. The touch-points Project Connector delivers include:

    • Subtask tracking.

    • Actual labor posting.

    • Two-way project-task-team data integration.

    • Financial analysis.

    • Project budget calculation.

    • Resource/employee integration.

    • New end-user interface.

  • Quick Send. Quick Send capabilities have been expanded to also help you transmit accounts receivable statements, order management, order confirmations, shipping notices, and payroll direct deposit advice slips, by e-mail or fax. The Quick Send feature will also be enhanced to send a document (except for payroll direct deposit advice slips) to more than one recipient.
