Effective with general availability of the next version of Microsoft Dynamics® AX, Microsoft will discontinue the Microsoft Dynamics AX COM Business Connector. The current release, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009, is the last that will include the COM Business Connector.
Background
The Microsoft Dynamics AX COM Business Connector is an integration component that provides a COM (Component Object Model) interface. The COM Business Connector first shipped with Axapta 2.0 in 1999 and primarily enabled Enterprise Portal to access data and business logic in Axapta (later Microsoft Dynamics AX). In Microsoft Dynamics AX 4.0, the .NET Business Connector was introduced with managed APIs and interoperability with the Microsoft .NET Framework. The .NET Business Connector is used by both the Enterprise Portal and Application Integration Framework (AIF). For backward compatibility, the COM Business Connector shipped alongside the .NET Business Connector in Microsoft Dynamics AX 4.0 and Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009.
Since the current version of the product, Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009, contains no dependencies on the COM Business Connector, and with future investment focused on integration technologies based on the .NET Framework, the COM Business Connector will not ship in future Microsoft Dynamics AX releases.
Take Action
Customers, partners, and ISVs using solutions based on the COM Business Connector should plan to migrate those solutions to the .NET Business Connector. For documentation about the .NET Business Connector, go to the .NET Business Connector Overview on MSDN.
