Microsoft supports the following Web server recommendations and client workstation requirements for Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 Web applications, including:
Business Portal for Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 (with Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services or Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007)
Business Portal for Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 Feature Pack 1 (with Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services or Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007)
Web Services for Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0
Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services when used with Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0
The specific hardware that you will need for your configurations depends on several factors in your computing environment. To achieve individual performance expectations, you may need to increase the following recommendations. For information about system requirements other than those for Web applications, refer to the System requirements for Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0.
Note
Customers currently using Web applications for Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 can refer to the Knowledge Base documents linked to below for more detailed information. Knowledge Base (KB) is part of CustomerSource and is a secure site available to customers on a service plan.
Dedicated Web server recommendations
Review the customer profiles below and determine which one most accurately describes your environment based on user count and the components that you're using. Then use that profile as a recommendation for your Web server hardware implementation.
The following table provides an overview of the recommended number of servers for each customer profile. The table also recommends which Web applications should be installed on each server.
Note
All customer profiles require a dedicated SQL server in addition to the servers listed in the table.
Web application | Customer profile 1 | Customer profile 21 | Customer profile 32 |
|---|
Business Portal for Microsoft Dynamics GP33 | Server 1 | Server 1 | Server 1 |
Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 or Office SharePoint Server 2007 (Enterprise Edition 32-bit only) | Server 1 | Server 1 | Server 1 |
Workflow for Microsoft Dynamics GP4 | N/A | Server 1 | Server 1 |
Web Services for Microsoft Dynamics GP | Server 1 | Server 2 | Server 2 |
SQL Server Reporting Services when used with Microsoft Dynamics GP5 | Server 1 | Server 2 | Server 3 |
1 Servers can be load-balanced in customer profile 2.
2 Servers can be load-balanced in customer profile 3.
3 Business Portal running on Office SharePoint Server 2007 requires Web Services to be installed.
4 Workflow requires Office SharePoint Server 2007 and Web Services to be installed.
5 The report deployment with SQL Server Reporting Services is supported only with SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services and SQL Server 2005 SP2.
Customer profile 1
The following profile guidelines apply if you:
Use only one of the following Business Portal applications:
Process fewer than 500 transactions per day if using Requisition Management, Human Resources Management Self Service Suite, or Project Time and Expense
Process fewer than 500 orders per day if using Order Management
Use SQL Server Reporting Services
Have 0-500 named users1 who are using Business Portal and SQL Server Reporting Services
Have one Web server
1A named user is a unique user who accesses Business Portal or SQL Server Reporting Services and performs a task on an average of once every four hours. Increased transaction volume per user will decrease the number of users a server can support.
Component | Requirements | Notes |
|---|
Operating system | One of the following: Windows Server 2008 Web Edition, Standard Edition, or Enterprise Edition, with or without SP2 Windows Server 2003 Web Edition SP2, Enterprise Edition SP2, R2 Enterprise Edition, Standard Edition SP2, or R2 Standard Edition
| An English language operating system is required. The Web server computer name must not contain an underscore (_). The Easy Print functionality in Windows Server 2008 is not supported. The Web server must be on a 32-bit operating system; 64-bit operating systems are not supported. See the 64-bit compatibility table in the Additional notes section of the Microsoft Dynamics GP system requirements page for more information. For more information about Windows Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008, see the Windows Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008 compatibility tables in the Additional notes section of the Microsoft Dynamics GP system requirements page. Windows Server Web Editions are designed specifically for dedicated Web servers. A computer that is running Windows Server 2003 Web Edition can be a member of a domain, but it can't be a domain controller. You also can't install SQL Server on a computer that is running Windows Server 2003 Web Edition. For more information, refer to the following pages: Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008.

Perimeter network requirements
If you are deploying Business Portal in an extranet environment, you must set up a perimeter network. Business Portal has been tested and documented using Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration Server (ISA Server) to create a perimeter network. If your company's perimeter network does not use ISA Server, we recommend that you use hardware and software with similar functionality. You also should set up the same communication rules and policies as recommended for ISA Server.
For more information about ISA Server, including a hardening guide, refer to the ISA Server home page.
For information about recommended communication rules and policies to run Business Portal in an extranet environment, refer to the Business Portal Installation Guide. See Installing and deploying Business Portal for Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 for more information.

Additional notes
This document represents configurations tested by Microsoft and supported by Technical Support. Use of technologies not specified in this document is not recommended and will not be supported. Testing is ongoing, and as newer technologies become supported, this list will be updated.
All Microsoft Dynamics GP Web applications must be installed in a domain environment.
If you use antivirus software, consider its requirements when you calculate processor and RAM requirements.
If you use the Small Business Server operating system, your Web server may be a domain controller and may host other server applications, such as Microsoft Exchange. Consider the requirements of all server applications when you calculate processor and RAM requirements.
If you have questions about licensing SQL Server for use with Microsoft Dynamics GP, contact a licensing specialist at 1-800-426-9400.
For more information about support for Microsoft Dynamics GP Web applications in a virtual environment, see Knowledge Base article 937629.
Review the compatibility matrixes in the Additional notes section of the System requirements for Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 page to verify whether the features and products that you want to use are supported with 64-bit operating systems, Windows Server 2008, and SQL Server 2008.
