MAS 90 - MAS 200 and Microsoft Dynamics GP
Updated: April 6, 2005
In a Microsoft-sponsored study, accounting industry expert J. Carlton Collins compared Microsoft Great Plains version 8.0 (now Microsoft Dynamics GP) with version 4.0 of Sage's MAS 90 and MAS 200 software. Collins, who is president of ASA Research, a subsidiary of Accounting Software Advisor, LLC, worked with his staff to evaluate eight aspects of the two products: underlying technology, scalability, general feature set, multinational capabilities, breadth of modules, core financials, financial reporting, and the strength of the parent companies.
Collins and team concluded that, by every measure, Microsoft Great Plains provides superior features, functionality, and capabilities. Specifically, the study cites Microsoft Great Plains as providing a less expensive entry-level solution, greater scalability to meet the needs of larger companies, and a greater depth of product modules and features.
Evaluation highlights
In comparing the two business-management solutions, Collins and his staff found that Microsoft Great Plains 8.0:
| • | Offers an underlying programming technology that is superior to that of MAS 90/200. This is because Microsoft Great Plains is based on a standardized architecture that lends itself to future product enhancements, third-party integration, or migration to future platforms and technologies. |
| • | Provides a more scalable solution than MAS 90/200 because it offers a more affordable entry-level solution, an excellent mid-market solution, and a more powerful high-end solution for growing companies. |
| • | Offers a superior, feature rich, multinational solution. |
| • | Scores 30 percent higher than MAS 90/200 in the breadth of modules available. In addition, Microsoft Great Plains was judged 17 percent more functional than MAS 90/200 in core financials, including general ledger, accounts payable, account receivable, payroll, and inventory. |
This scorecard summarizes the results of the evaluation.
