Employee Portal for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 4.0 overview
Busy employees need to access to information appropriate to their role at a moment's notice. The more easily they can find the data, reports, and tools they require, the more efficiently they can do their jobs. Employee Portal for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 4.0 (formerly Microsoft Navision) speeds and simplifies this data access.
Using a cost-saving Web interface, members of your organization who need occasional access to Microsoft Dynamics NAV data but don't need full-fledged user status can work with specified data through your company intranet. For example. salespeople can enter orders and view customer accounts and histories. Purchasers can check on stock availability. And production designers can look up bills of material.

How Employee Portal works
Offered with Microsoft Dynamics NAV 4.0 Service Pack 1, Employee Portal integrates the client application with Microsoft SharePoint, the standard Microsoft intranet solution. This means that instead of using Microsoft Dynamics NAV to view, modify, and create application data, your employees can do so right in their Web browser, using Microsoft SharePoint.
Staff members who aren't licensed users of Microsoft Dynamics NAV can use Employee Portal to easily:
| • | Obtain quick updates of real-time data and reports stored in Microsoft Dynamics NAV |
| • | Access and share Microsoft Office documents |
| • | Use sales, service, and reporting tools |
| • | Modify data housed in the Microsoft Dynamics NAV system |
Save time and training costs
If your employees have worked with a Microsoft program or used the Internet before, they have all the experience they need to use this Microsoft Dynamics NAV Web portal. Your system administrator doesn't need to set up or educate any users, and your employees don't need to learn a new system. You save on training costs, and your employees can start working immediately. In addition, there are no extra software costs, as Microsoft SharePoint is included with Microsoft Windows 2003.
Like all Microsoft Dynamics NAV solutions, Employee Portal was developed with the user in mind: It's both intuitive and simple to use. As a result, your employees save valuable time in their daily work routines. Because they're getting their hands on the information they need more quickly, they have more time in their schedules to analyze such business-critical data. And they're better equipped with the details they need to effectively solve problems, answer questions, and make smarter business decisions.
Setup made simple
Setting up Microsoft Dynamics NAV Employee Portal requires minimal programming on the part of your system administrator or Microsoft partner. Employee Portal comes with three out-of-the-box Microsoft .NET–based Web parts—a list, a header-line, and a card Web part—and is easy to configure on the Microsoft Dynamics NAV 4.0 back end. The illustration below shows an example of these Web parts.
In the original setup, you decide how much access your employees should have to Microsoft Dynamics NAV. This helps ensure that employees stay focused on the business data relevant to their role in your organization and that they don't waste time learning a system they don't need to use.
