Microsoft launches Retail Management System 1.3
Updated: December 5, 2005
Microsoft Retail Management System Store Operations and Headquarters provides small and midsize retailers with an integrated point of sale solution to manage operations within one store or across a chain of stores. This powerful software package enables retailers to track inventory more efficiently and improve customer service.
With Microsoft Retail Management System 1.3, small and midsize retailers can expect improved memory management, tighter credit card security, increased system scalability and reliability, and enhanced system performance.
Free up system memory
Customers can easily delete completed Headquarters worksheets to release system memory and improve performance. Retail Management System worksheets are generated continually, both manually and automatically, as a typical part of the system’s processes. Deleting completed worksheets helps you:
| • | Improve Headquarters Manager startup speed. |
| • | Navigate through the system more quickly. |
| • | Create and approve worksheets faster. |
| • | Better monitor worksheet progress. |
Protect credit card information better
Store Operations now has enhanced security for handling credit card information so your customers' data is safer. Based on the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Payment Application Best Practices (PABP) guidelines, the new security features allow the following:
| • | Masked credit card numbers. Credit card numbers are always masked, so it is now impossible for customers' full credit card numbers to be stored as part of the transaction or printed on receipts. |
| • | Credit card numbers automatically deleted from system. When using Vital as the payment provider, credit card transaction information, including the credit card number, will be automatically deleted from the system after successful settlement, to prevent unauthorized use. |
Improve system performance
Your customers will benefit from a more reliable and scalable solution, with enhancements such as:
| • | Improved database connection management between Headquarters and Store Operations, which frees memory to provide greater performance and scalability. |
| • | Actively-managed database connections, so system downtime is reduced and communication between applications is expedited. |
Track and coordinate information more smoothly
As announced earlier this fall as part of Retail Management System version 1.2, retailers can now better coordinate and track store and headquarters information between Retail Management System and Microsoft Dynamics GP. The integration enhancements provide a comprehensive solution for retailers who manage their store, financial, and inventory operations from a central location. The advanced integration with Microsoft Dynamics GP can help retailers:
| • | Improve inventory control and gain business agility. |
| • | Enhance financial management across the supply chain. |
| • | Eliminate double data entry by preserving supplier data on synchronized items. |
| • | Gain an extra level of visibility into accounts receivable transactions at the individual store level. |
