Questions about pricing and discounts
Q: Is there a SQL statement to update PriceA, PriceB, etc. based on PriceA= (Price * .90), PriceB = (price * .80), etc?
A: I would recommend using the Inventory Wizard Task 110: Change Item Prices. You can Discount from Regular Price; choose Level A, Level B, Level C, etc. as the Price to be changed; and set the Percentage of the discount. You can also preview the changes before you make them. Please make a backup before running.
Q: I’d like to create a sale "e.g. Summer Sale," where all items are XX% off, with the ability to simply add or remove items from that sale. Would an implementation like this be possible?
A: I am not aware of a way to do this, but you could take a look at the Solution Finder to see if there is a 3rd party product that does this. The link is as follows and you will want to filter on Works With - Retail Management System: Solution Finder Web site.
Q: I would like more options related to discounts. For example, we would like to have a scenario where, if the total transaction equals $XX, then you get item x, y, or z, for free.
A: We’d recommend that you submit this suggestions through CustomerSource: Product Feedback for Microsoft Dynamics Products (login required). To be as effective as we can, we recommend that you first search previous suggestions. If your suggestion has not already been entered by someone else, you can enter a new one. Also, you can vote on existing suggestions. The more votes, the more likely it is that a suggestion will appear in future products. You can also search for possible add-in modules that may provide the discount options that you are looking for, at our Solution Finder Web site: Solution Finder Web site.
Q: When creating a worksheet to set sale prices, it seems the start and end times are completely irrelevant. Our sales never end on time, and I usually have to create a new worksheet to revert them back to their original retail sale price. This seems tedious.
A: Are you stating that if an item has a sale price, and the date is after the sale end date, the price given is the sale price? In testing on build 2.0.0123, the regular price is charged at the POS if the sale end date is set as 2/1/2009. Also, there is a Knowledge Base article 925124, “How to remove sale information for all items that are no longer on sale in Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System Store Operations,” which you can find here: KB Article 925124.
Q: It would be nice in the future to add categories to the discounts. Like for a buy-one-get-one type discount, it could be, buy an item in the NOVELTY category and get any NOVELTY at 50% off.
A: You could create a buy-one-get-one type discount; and then use a SQL script to assign the discount to all items in the category. You could also take a look at the Solution Finder to see if there is a 3rd party product that does this. The link is as follows; and you will want to filter on Works With - Retail Management System: Solution Finder Web site. If you would like to submit a suggestion about how this can be improved, please use one of the following links: In CustomerSource, visit: Product Feedback for Microsoft Dynamics Products (login required).
Other questions
Q: We would like to have a reward program for customers based on the amount of dollars spent this year. Any sample of code to do this, e.g., trigger? Tried several add-ons, but most don't disregard certain departments or already discounted items.
A: Unfortunately, we do not have a sample for this request. However, the Customer() Class has a totalsales attribute that can be obtained. However, this is for all purchases. Please take a look at the Solution Finder to see if there is a 3rd party product that does this. The link is as follows; and you will want to filter on Works With - Retail Management System: Solution Finder Web site. Or, you can post your question in the public newsgroup to see if anyone has something that does what you need or knows how others are handling this: Microsoft Dynamics RMS Newsgroup.
Q: Can Microsoft Dynamics RMS 2.0 be installed on Windows 2000 SP4?
A: Yes; RMS 2.0 is supported on Windows 2000 SP4. You can find the system requirements at System Requirements.
Q: I’m a Beta tester for Windows 7. How can I get a test key for RMS 2.x in order to test?
A: I would encourage you to talk to your Partner about this. He should be able to arrange to get you a Microsoft Dynamics RMS 2.0 Trial Key. We also have a link to a Microsoft Web page where you can request a free trial: Free Trial Download. For more information, here is the Microsoft Dynamics RMS page on Microsoft.com, as well: Microsoft Dynamics RMS.
Q: It would be nice if reports such as this month’s sales versus last year’s sales would be available.
A: If the report you are looking for is not in the Reports Library, it may be something that Technical Support could be able to create. See Modified Reports. If you have further questions, please contact Microsoft Dynamics Support to open a support request at: Microsoft Dynamics Support, or call Support at: 1-888-477-7877.
Q: This is a common type of report that a business would like, comparing sales from year to year and month to month. No reports in the Reports Library. Just a comment, no answer required.
A: Thanks so much for your comment and we will consider this for future releases. Please also feel free to enter your suggestions at Product Feedback for Microsoft Dynamics Products (login required).
Q: Is there anywhere that I can find a sort of catalog of SQL scripts?
A: There is not a catalog of SQL scripts, but the Knowledge Base contains a number of SQL scripts as part of solutions and this would be a great place to look: Knowledge Base Search.
