Academic Volume Licensing

Academic Volume Licensing programs provide simple, flexible, volume-based pricing. Microsoft has a variety of program options available to fit the diverse needs of Australian educators and students.

If your organization meets our criteria for "Qualified Educational Users," it is eligible to acquire Microsoft Academic Edition (AE) products through the volume license programs indicated.

Education Institutions

An accredited institution organized operated exclusively for the purpose of teaching its enrolled students.

Schools

A public or private school, elementary, primary, intermediate, secondary or high school, extraordinary school for the disabled, vocational school, job training establishment, correspondence school, junior college, college of education, university, or scientific or technical institute, polytechnic, academy or religious school.
Offers courses of study that lead to certification that is recognized as part of a country's mainstream educational progression; and is accredited by the Ministry/Department of Education or recognized education accreditation agency within the country. In the absence of direct accreditation, there must be accreditation by proxy; and substantially all of the institution's student enrolments (>90%) must be educational courses leading to an accredited certification recognized as part of a country's mainstream educational progression, with only incidental enrollments in non-accredited programs.

Early Childhood Center

An early childhood program incorporated for the purpose of providing educational services to children between two and five years of age, and which serves minimum of ten such children; is lawfully established, authorized, created, licensed, chartered, registered and/or accredited by the Ministry/Department of Education or appropriate recognized accreditation agency within the country; and has been in operation for at least one year.

Organized and operated for the administration of public educational institutions.

Public Institutions

Public Libraries

Primarily provides general library services without charge to all residents of a given community, district or region; supported by public or private funds; makes its basic collections and basic services available to the population of its legal service area without charges to individual users, but may impose charges on users outside its legal service area; and may or may not provide products and services, beyond its basic services, to the public at large with or without individual charges.

Public Museums

Public or private agency or institution organized on a permanent basis for essentially education or aesthetic purposes; utilize a professional staff; and own or utilize tangible objects, care for them and exhibit them to the public on a regular basis.

Examples of entities not eligible for academic pricing:
  • Non-accredited schools
  • Churches
  • Hospitals, Healthcare Systems, and Research Laboratories that do not meet the qualifications above*
  • Non-profit/charitable organizations that do not meet the qualifications above
*Special note regarding Hospitals, Healthcare Systems and Research Laboratories: Hospitals, Healthcare Systems and Research Laboratories are NOT eligible to acquire AE product licenses unless they are wholly owned and operated by a qualified Educational Institution as defined above. “Wholly owned and operated” means that the Educational Institution is the sole owner of said hospital, healthcare system or research laboratory and the only entity exercising control over the said institution’s day-to-day operations. Note that hospitals, healthcare systems, and research laboratories are NOT eligible to purchase School Agreement and are not eligible to be included as part of an Educational Institution’s School Agreement even if they are wholly owned and operated by the Educational Institution.
