Microsoft Windows HPC Server 2008 Experience Counts Program
Terms and Conditions

Microsoft’s Windows HPC Server 2008 Experience Counts program addresses problems common among educators and researchers working to develop, implement, and/or evaluate High Performance Computing programs, curricula and courses. The Experience Counts program provides a framework for sharing new ideas for syllabi, elements of teaching, and pedagogy, at all levels of instruction and research.
This program is subject to the following terms and conditions and all participants acknowledge and agree to be bound by these terms and conditions.
Program Description: Higher education academic institutions worldwide that agree to satisfy the following program requirements and also meet the eligibility criteria defined in the eligibility section are qualified to receive the price discounts listed in the program discounts section for Windows HPC Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 HPC Edition while the program is in effect.
  1. Program Requirement #1: Through the program website hosted by Microsoft at www.hpcexperiencecounts.com, the academic institution must register to participate during the program period and accept the terms and conditions. Registration will include the following information:
    1. Academic institution name
    2. Academic institution website
    3. Academic institution mailing address
    4. Submitter’s name –the submitter must be authorized to submit by the academic institution
    5. Submitter’s email address provided by the academic institution (personal email addresses will not be accepted)
    6. Submitter’s mailing address at the academic Institution
    7. Submitter’s title
    8. OPTIONAL: Link to additional public information on academic institution’s use of HPC and Windows HPC such as blog entries, websites or news articles
  2. Program Requirement #2: At most 120 days after program registration, through the website hosted by Microsoft at www.hpcexperiencecounts.com, submit in English, any one of the following items. Each author of a work listed below must accept the End User License Agreement through the website hosted by Microsoft at the Academic Resource Center.
    1. Curriculum Statement of Work
      Submission should include an outline describing HPC curriculum specific to a domain topic, and must convincingly show teaching, learning or research domain expertise using Windows HPC Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 HPC Edition. Only one version of the Curriculum Statement of Work is required and must include each author’s name, contact information, and academic affiliation. Outline (including abstract) are limited to two pages. All curriculum statement of work must be posted to the Academic Resource Center, along with each author’s name, contact information and academic affiliation. Appropriate releases must be accepted when submitting. Examples of curriculum outlines and resources are available here.
    2. Windows HPC Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 HPC Edition Syllabus
      Proposed submissions can reflect new ideas for Windows HPC Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 HPC Edition syllabi, and other elements of teaching and pedagogy, at all levels of instruction and research; learning outcomes and lesson planner. Only one version of the paper is required and must include each author’s name, contact information, and academic affiliation. Windows HPC Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 HPC Edition syllabus proposals (including abstract) are limited to two pages. All Windows HPC Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 HPC Edition Syllabus must be posted to the Academic Resource Center, along with a name, contact information and academic affiliation. Appropriate releases must be accepted when submitting. Examples of course syllabi are available here.
    3. Academic Paper
      Describe an HPC teaching, learning and research experience, teaching technique, research or curricular initiative, or educational outreach project including Windows HPC Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 HPC Edition. The academic paper can also describe teaching material, educational research, or work in progress. Only one version of the paper is required and most include each author’s name, contact information, and academic affiliation. Papers (including abstract) are limited to two pages. All academic papers must be posted to the Academic Resource Center, along with a name, contact information and academic affiliation. Appropriate releases must be accepted when submitting.     4. Case Study
      Provide teaching, learning, and research evidence that describe innovative new teaching or research approaches for Windows HPC Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 HPC Edition. Only one version of the case study is required and must include each author’s name, contact information, and academic affiliation. Case studies are limited to 5 pages. All case studies must be posted to the Academic Resource Center, along with a name, contact information and academic affiliation. Appropriate releases must be accepted when submitting.     5. Video
      Videos can include classroom lectures, demonstrations, animations, or other materials relevant to HPC teaching, learning and/or research covering Windows HPC Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 HPC Edition. To be considered the videos must be posted to the Academic Resource Center, along with a name, contact information and academic affiliation. Appropriate releases must be accepted by each participant shown on camera. Video examples are available here. If video format is used, each person appearing in the video must also submit an individual release.
  3. Program Requirement #3: Complete an online survey about the use and deployment of Windows HPC Server 2008 at the academic institution involved. Survey must be completed within 6 months of online registration to the program.
Program Discounts:
This program offers the following discounts off the list prices in effect for eligible academic participants.
  1. Approximately 66% to 67% off for License only purchases
  2. Approximately 61% to 62% off for License and Software Assurance only purchases
Program Eligibility:
All new or renewing Academic Open License Agreement and Academic Select License Agreement academic customers satisfying program requirements are eligible in all countries worldwide. Reseller pricing and participation may vary.
Program Duration:
Registration for the program commences at 12:00AM Pacific Daylight Savings Time on November 1, 2008 and ends on 11:59PM Pacific Standard Time on April 30, 2009. Price discounts for eligible program participants are available between 12:00AM Pacific Daylight Savings Time on November 1, 2008 and 11:59PM Pacific Standard Time on April 30, 2009. Microsoft, in its sole discretion, may decide to end the program earlier.

Eligible academic institutions have the opportunity to purchase from participating authorized resellers or from their local Microsoft representative licenses for the following software:
  1. Windows HPC Server 2008
  2. Windows Server 2008 HPC Edition
Purchase Limitations:
For this promotion the minimum order size is 8 units and the maximum order size is 1,000 units. This offer is non-transferable. When the academic licensing agreements for software acquired during the promotion period expire (in 3 years or at the end of the applicable Software Assurance period) regular pricing will apply.
