Below are just a few comments made by judges and students regarding the educational benefits of e-portfolios.
Judges:
“Presently students develop a poster in our senior design studio. An e-portfolio would be a much better way to view process and critical thinking skills. Students won’t make posters after they graduate, but they will be doing things like this ….”
“After reading through the portfolio I found that I was no longer so concerned with whether or not the project had a successful outcome. It was the story of the process that kept me interested and revealed where the real learning was taking place”
“This work shows a personal journey in which [the student] integrates what she is learning and how she reframes herself.”
Students:
“This space has become more and more important to me: to my research process, my dissertation, and my knowledge building ….”
“The e-portfolio is my studio … I make the rules. I sketch what I want to sketch, I paint what I want to paint. I can tear things up, I can save things, whatever I do goes into the bigger picture. It is a way to show people a bigger vision of what is inside my mind.”
“This isn’t a poster session. I don’t want to do another poster. I’m interested in the process of learning. Of showing that.”
