Exhibit 4: The Global Challenge program

Return to Article

The Global Challenge invites teams of high school students to compete for prizes, points, and scholarship money by working on solutions to the problem of climate change. International teams work collaboratively to propose innovative solutions to global warming and the future of energy. Over 400 students each year spend 150 hours or more working out their collaborative solutions.

The Global Challenge has led in the formation of the World Game partnership and has undertaken that role in order to create long-term relationships and synergies with a wide variety of partners. The Global Challenge project serves as a test bed for ideas about the World Game. For example, some of the World Game‘s curriculum units were initially developed with faculty members and resources of the Global Challenge. The Global Challenge hopes to achieve part of its goals for sustainability and scale-up via the World Game.

The Global Challenge Award is funded in part by a National Science Foundation grant (NSF 05-621: ESI-0624663) to the College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences at the University of Vermont.
