Microsoft Innovative Students program
Ordering criteria and pricing information
To qualify for this breakthrough program, governments must meet the following Microsoft Student Innovation Suite (MSIS) criteria.
Low, Lower-Middle, and Upper-Middle Income Countries
- At least 50 percent of the purchase price must be subsidized by governments and the PCs provided to primary and secondary students for their personal use.
- PCs must be bulk ordered in volumes of at least 10,000 PCs and must be fulfilled within one year, in a single language. Orders placed beyond the first year have an annual requirement of at least 10,000 PCs as well.
- A Microsoft Partners in Learning (PiL) agreement is not required for this set of countries.
- If Windows XP Starter Edition is not available in a specific market (except for the Greater Republic of China, where we will make a Simplified Chinese version available only through MSIS), Windows XP Starter Edition maybe replaced in MSIS PCs by preinstalling the PCs with Windows XP Home Edition for the original MSIS license price of Windows XP Starter Edition, with or without a Microsoft Partners in Learning (PiL) agreement in place.
- If Windows XP Starter Edition is available in a specific market and a PiL agreement is in place, MSIS PCs can be preinstalled with either Windows XP Home Edition or Professional as the replacement for Windows XP Starter Edition at the original MSIS license price of Windows XP Starter Edition.
- If Windows XP Starter Edition is available in a specific market and there is not a PiL agreement in place, MSIS PCs can only have Windows XP Starter Edition preinstalled, they cannot be preinstalled with more premium Windows XP offerings.
- PCs have no guaranteed software support provided by Microsoft.
Additional criteria for High Income Countries
- Valid only for PCs purchased by governments and given to primary and secondary students for personal use at home and for their schoolwork, available only for underserved communities, identified by governments using Microsoft's PiL guidelines.
- A PiL agreement is required for this set of countries.
The Microsoft Student Innovation Suite includes: Windows XP, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Math, and Learning Essentials for Microsoft Office. Microsoft will offer this suite for US$3 to qualifying governments that meet the above criteria. The US $3 is the fee for the MSIS license only. Cost of goods, including items such as ordered recovery media or localization for unsupported languages, are in addition to this fee. Upon request suite components are available individually as part of this program upon request.
