School Agreement Special Use Rights
Your Microsoft School Agreement contains many terms and conditions of which you should be aware. Many of the rights documented in the agreement provide great benefits to your institution. Some of the rights of your agreement that will be of most interest to you are explained below:
- Work at Home Rights: Your school may offer limited Work at Home Rights for faculty and staff members at no extra license charge. These rights permit the use of application, system, and CAL products on a personally owned computer for work-related purposes. Learn more about Work at Home rights.
- Home Use Program Rights: As a School Agreement customer, you may give your faculty and staff members access to the Microsoft Office system desktop PC programs to use on their personally owned computer through the Home Use Program (HUP). This is a benefit of Microsoft Software Assurance. With HUP, your faculty and staff members can get the Microsoft Office system programs to use on their home computer for both work and personal use at a nominal cost. Providing the HUP licensed product is easy for the institution, as the institution does not have to handle the distribution of the software. Once your Software Assurance benefits administrator activates the benefit, individual faculty and staff members can order and pay for shipping of their licensed product online. Note: You are not permitted to provide licensed product for the same title to any individual faculty or staff member using both HUP and WAH. Learn more about the Home Use program.
- Foreign Language Rights: During the 12-month term of the subscription, you are allowed to run the licensed product in any available language. This includes the right to run the Multi-Language version of Office and its corresponding features, such as a global interface and multi-language proofing tools. At the time you place an order, you will select from the available languages for each product. Media for up to two languages is provided at no charge for applications and systems products.
- Upgrade/Downgrade Rights: You are allowed to run new versions of the licensed product included in the agreement as they are released. Additionally, you may run any previous version of the licensed product. These upgrade and downgrade rights also apply to the individual components of the software.
