6i Innovative Schools

The extent to which a school can innovate depends a great deal on its environment. What is possible for a school in one country may not be possible in another. As we started working with these Innovative Schools in 12 very different countries, we realized that we needed to be able to have the same conversation with all schools – and with various stakeholders at each school – at the same time.

In our work on the School of the Future project in the USA, Microsoft created the 6i Process, designed to guide the development team and provide a framework for decision-making. This process has been adapted for use in cultures and contexts outside the United States, and new resources are being developed for each stage.

This page explains the stage of this process and links you to whitepapers explaining the steps taken with the Innovative Schools during every step. We also encourage you to visit our Innovative Schools Network to access resources and materials used and created by the Innovative Schools. You can also join communities and discussions with these schools, and learn from other schools around the world.
