Think About... using one click to find a selected student folder without having to navigate and click through a maze of network folders.
How Does This Look?
Do you find yourself double-clicking through a number of folders to find students' folders to access their assignments and projects? Setting up a link to each student's folder in Microsoft Excel can save hours of time throughout the school year and also let you easily track each student's project status. Here are the steps to set this up:
1. | Have a list of your students ready to go. This can be a previous computer file list, an export from your digital grade book, or a printed copy. |
2. | Open Excel and import your list either by opening it from within Excel (select All Files from the pop-up menu) or by clicking the Data menu and then selecting Import External Data and Import Data. |
3. | You will be prompted to select a file. Search for the file you want (select All Files from the pop-up menu). If prompted, select Finish to complete the import. |
4. | Delete any columns you do not need by selecting the column and then right mouse click to delete it. |
5. | To link a student's name to his or her file, click to select the cell with the student's name, and then create the link by navigating to the student folder. After you have this set up, just one click will take you to the selected student's folder on the network. |
6. | You can easily add new columns to your worksheet to help track projects as you introduce them during the year. |
