Think About... how students can become life-long learners by reading books. Using a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, help your students keep track of their reading goals by charting their performance and accomplishments over time. This exercise helps motivate students to read while providing a tool that works at any level.

How does this look?

Have your students chart the number of books they've read, the number of pages, the type of book, and any test score applicable to the particular book. Have them make a simple chart in Excel, and then have them personalize it with Microsoft Word Art, colored cells, and graphics of their choice.

Periodically, encourage students to update their chart and reflect on what they have accomplished so that they can set future goals.
