With this project, third graders gain an understanding of life two generations ago. After writing to their grandparents to ask them about their childhood years, the students create a presentation comparing and contrasting their lives to that of their grandparents at the same age. They learn to incorporate digital photographs, sound files, and a family tree using the organizational chart in PowerPoint.

“When the students present their projects to a classroom full of grandparents, there are smiles, laughter, and tears as the generations come together.”

Patricia Fitzgerald, Cascade Elementary School
