How Do I Solve This Problem?
Updated: April 6, 2004
In this project, students learn ten fundamental problem-solving strategies. Afterward, they write sample problems and create study materials to help their classmates develop proficiency with them. Using the knowledge they've acquired, students create and play a game to practice choosing the right strategy prior to taking statewide standardized tests.
“Writing their own problems called upon a higher level of understanding. In the end, the use of higher order thinking skills gave the students ownership of the strategies.”
Brad Bentman & Heather Mangold, Glenolden School
