Volume Activation 2.0 is a requirement in the Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 operating systems, which require activation of each Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 license acquired under a volume license agreement.

Volume Activation 2.0 is designed to help increase protection and to help better manage the Volume License Keys in managed and non-managed environments as well as provide flexible deployment options for customers. The process is transparent for end users, and the Volume Activation 2.0 solution works in a variety of customer environments. The introduction of Volume Activation 2.0 does not change how you access your Volume License Keys for applicable products, nor does it change your volume license agreements or programs.

There are a number of resources available to help you understand how Volume Activation 2.0 works, as well as specific scenarios and steps for education customers. Please refer to the resources listed below to learn more.
