Accelerating 21st Century Education

Microsoft, Intel, and Cisco have made a combined commitment of more than $9 million to support the Clinton Global Initiative through the Accelerating 21st Century Education (ACE) program. To improve the quality of primary and secondary education through the effective use of information and communication technology (ICT), ACE partners are working together to:

• Develop a best-in-class model for deploying ICT in education.
• Create “one-to-one e-learning” classrooms in 60 focus schools across Kenya. One-to-one e-learning, a model in which every student has access to a computer, helps foster an environment in which young people can develop skills like problem-solving and critical thinking.
• Open a School Technology Innovation Center at the Kenya Institute of Education to help train teachers on the appropriate use of ICT in the classroom.

Global Give Back Circle in Kenya

​The Global Give Back Circle (GGBC), a Microsoft-supported initiative, helps disadvantaged girls in Kenya successfully transition from high school to university. The first class in 2008 enrolled 35 students. Microsoft staff in Kenya and other parts of Africa have worked to bring technology, IT curriculum, and certification programs into the Global Give Back Circle.

Building Back Better in Haiti

Building Back Better - a partnership with Microsoft, Inveneo, HP, WorldVision, and others - was created to help Haiti rebuild its education infrastructure. This program is focused on:

• Delivering rural broadband communications via local ISPs and entrepreneurs.
• Providing technology and capacity-building support for 40 rural “lighthouse” schools.
• Impacting 24,000 students who will gain access to improved education through technology.

These schools will help lthe Ministry of Education (MENFP) and IDB deliver on a multi-billion dollar promise to “build back better” 2,400+ schools in the next few years.
