Workplace AwardsCited for its open culture, responsive and accessible management, and technically advanced facilities, Microsoft was named the top European workplace among companies with more than 500 employees in the 2008 List of the Best Workplaces in Europe. The company was also recognised for the direct investments it makes in its employees, providing regular training opportunities and supporting flexible work modes to enhance work-life balance. First-place honours extend to 14 of the company's European subsidiary operations: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain and Sweden. The league table is generated each year by the Great Place to Work Institute, a global research and management consultancy. Workplaces are rated based on the results of national studies that survey employees directly and also audit company managers across each country. For the last 5 years Microsoft has consistently featured in the Top 10 of the awards, in which more than 1,250 companies across Europe participate.
