The Microsoft Government Leaders Forums (GLFs) are events that bring together top government and businesses leaders with the goal of driving discussion on how the private sector can work in cooperation with local, regional and central governments to exchange experiences and best practices related to good governance, socio-economic development, healthcare and education, as well as to discuss the roles that information and communication technologies (ICT) play in achieving success in these areas. Following the highly successful European GLF in Rome last year, the European GLF in Prague on 1–2 February, 2005 will focus on the strategic aims of The Lisbon Agenda and provide a forum for exploring how the public and private sector can partner for success in achieving EU policy goals and boosting economic growth. The ICT revolution is one of the single biggest drivers of economic growth and prosperity that we have ever witnessed and is a fundamental component of economic growth in Europe. Like the EU, Microsoft sees the period 2000–2010 as the ‘Digital Decade’ in which technology acts as a key driver in enabling individuals, businesses, governments and communities to realise their full potential. Microsoft is working to support the Lisbon goals and contribute to the information society through partnerships with industry, government and communities across the new European Union. It is through this collaboration of public and private sector that Europe will build and sustain the momentum to deliver the Lisbon 2010 goals. Inside the Virtual Pressroom
