Welcome to the virtual press room for Microsoft GLF Africa 2006, taking place in Cape Town 10-11 July. Government Leaders Forums are Microsoft-organised events that bring together representatives from governments and top businesses from around the world to set information, technology and community agendas, and to discuss how countries can streamline service delivery and empower their citizens through the use of information and communication technologies (ICT). Local economic development and driving competitiveness are two critical issues for African governments. Microsoft is working to support government and NGO leaders across Africa and around the world in this regard, with a deep commitment to the region evidenced by grants, partnerships, support of the local software economy and other investments that will help Africa achieve its potential and thrive in the future.
