Welcome to the virtual pressroom for the World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) II, taking place 16 to 18 Nov in Tunis, Tunisia.
The UN General Assembly (21 December 2001) endorsed the holding of WSIS in two phases. The UN agency that holds the leading role in the organisation of the Summit is the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), based in Geneva, Switzerland.
The objective of the WSIS is to reach consensus on how the information society is to be built, using a multi-stakeholder approach involving government, business and civil society.
