Eligibility

  • Contest open to delegates who have registered to attend Tech·Ed EMEA 2008 IT Professionals  (3 - 7 November 2008)
  • A delegate is someone who has registered and paid in full for Tech·Ed EMEA 2008 IT Professionals (3 - 7 November 2008)
  • Delegates must be over the age of 18 years old and reside within EMEA (Europe, Middle East or Africa)
  • Contest excludes delegates who are representatives or employees of Microsoft Corporation or its affiliates in any capacity – i.e. full time employees, vendors, interns, contractors, etc. 
  • The price of the delegate conference ticket will be consistent with the pricing on the official conference Website - www.microsoft.com/emea/teched2008/itpro.
 

Submission Process

  • Presentation submissions to be emailed to itpidol@microsoft.com, together with participant name, company name, job role, email address and contact telephone number
  • Submissions limited to one per delegate
  • Submissions go live on Friday 17 September 2008
  • Submission deadline is Friday 17 October 2008
 

Presentation

  • Presentation to be submitted as WMV, MOV, AVI, MPG, FLV, MP4, 3GP
  • Presentation to be recorded focusing on person conducting presentation
  • Presentation to have good, clear audio quality
  • Presentation can be on any technical subject relating to a Microsoft IT professional product or technology
  • Presentation to consist of PPT, demo, or both – the choice is up to the participant
  • Presentation restricted to 3 minute duration (maximum)
  • Presentation file size limited to 3-5MEG (maximum)
  • Participant to be judged on the overall style of the presentation and the way in which they present themselves in front of a technical audience
  • Participant to display a confident and persuasive style to develop rapport and influence the audience
  • Participant to convey presentation in clear, understandable manner to create maximum impact
  • Participant to be judged on presentation skills in the first instance, followed by the content of the presentation.
 

Finalists and Winners

  • 9 finalists will be designated from the 30 submissions by a panel of judges – this will be the Preliminary Wave
  • The panel of judges to review the Preliminary Wave will consist of - Microsoft Technical Expert; Microsoft Event Manager; External Project Director
  • The panel of judges will review the submissions and notify the 9 finalists that they are through to the next round (which will take place on-site at the event)
  • The judges will review the submissions and judge presentation based on the above presenter criteria – presentation skills in the first instance, followed by content of the presentation
  • The 9 finalists will be selected and notified via email by 24 October 2008
  • The 9 finalists will be highlighted on the Tech·Ed EMEA 2008 Professionals Website for the duration of the contest
  • The contest will be structured around a further four waves which will take place on-site at Tech·Ed EMEA 2008 IT Professionals:

Wave 1:  
Mon 03 Nov

3 finalists to present at Welcome Reception, 19.00-20.00

Wave 2:  
Tues 04 Nov

3 finalists to present during lunch-time,
12:00-13:00

Wave 3:  
Weds 05 Nov

3 finalists to present during lunch-time,
12:45-13:30

  • The 9 finalists will be notified via email by 24 October 2008
  • The panel of judges to review Waves 1-3, plus the Final Wave, will consist of Microsoft Technical Expert; Top Third-Party Speaker; Community Influencer
  • One participant from each wave will be selected by the judges and will go through to the Final Wave, where the participant will be required to deliver the same presentation (delivered in previous Wave) to the panel of judges
  • The Final Wave will take place on Thurs 06 Nov from 14.45-15.45, during the dedicated exhibition slot
  • Speaker Idol winner and one runner-up will be announced live directly after final wave
  • Judges decision will be final
  • Winner and runners-up will be communicated broadly via the Tech·Ed EMEA 2008 IT Professionals Website and on-site via the display monitors
  • Winner and runners-up will be interviewed for podcasts/webcasts, photographed and introduced to their local Microsoft representatives for additional local media coverage.
 

Prizes

  • Winner to receive free Speaker ticket to Tech·Ed EMEA 2009 IT Professionals PLUS the opportunity to present one technical session
  • One runner-up will receive a free Delegate ticket to Tech·Ed EMEA 2009 IT Professionals
  • Winning prizes to be handed out on Thursday 06 November onsite at Tech·Ed EMEA 2008 IT Professionals
  • Estimated cash value of ticket for Tech·Ed EMEA 2009 IT Professionals is valued at €2,245 + VAT
  • Winning speaker ticket is not transferable
  • Winning speaker and delegate tickets cannot be exchanged for cash alternative
  • Prizes do NOT include travel & expenses (T&E) – winners will be responsible for their own T&E
  • The 9 finalists will receive an exclusive 'Speaker Idol' t-shirt
  • Microsoft reserves the right to publish presentations on Tech·Ed EMEA IT Professionals Website post-event.

Participant Properties

By entering into this contest, the participant agrees and consents to the following:

  • Microsoft will be entitled to record the participant’s presentation as the participant delivers it, including without limitation the participant’s image, appearance, likeness, words and testimony, and Microsoft shall own such recording
  • Microsoft will be entitled to use such recording and the participants’ submissions and presentations (either on a standalone basis or jointly with any other materials) as Microsoft sees fit, including without limitation its publishing, distribution and broadcasting through websites, printed materials and/or audio visual media, such as DVDs, either for commercial and/or non-commercial purposes, without any territorial or time limit
  • While Microsoft does not claim ownership over the submissions and presentations, or their form or content, the participant grants Microsoft any and all rights necessary or convenient under intellectual property law, image rights law and privacy law for Microsoft and its collaborators to conduct this contest, make, own and exploit the aforementioned recording and carry out the collateral activities contemplated in these official rules, without any limitation, need to pay fees or obtain further consents.
 

Terms and Conditions

  • Submissions and presentations must be original and unpublished. In particular, submissions submitted to, and presentations performed in, other contests or competitions (whether they won or not) will be disqualified
  • While Microsoft does not claim ownership over the submissions and presentations, or their form or content, the participant grants Microsoft any and all rights necessary or convenient under intellectual property law, image rights law and privacy law for Microsoft and its collaborators to conduct this contest and the collateral activities contemplated in these official rules, without any limitation, payment of fees or obtaining of further contents
  • Microsoft may not be held liable for any direct or indirect damage resulting from participation in this contest
  • Microsoft may not be held liable for any direct or indirect damages that may result during the creation of the presentation
  • Participant is solely responsible for the content of the presentation - as a result Microsoft may not be held liable for any third party claim related to the content of the presentation
  • Participant is solely responsible for the equipment and Internet access required to connect to the Site and/or participate in the contest
  • Contest is governed exclusively by the laws of Spain
  • Each party hereby consents to the jurisdiction and venue of the courts sitting in Barcelona, Spain
  • By entering the Speaker Idol contest, participants agree with the official rules/terms & conditions of the contest
  • Without prejudice to the foregoing, Microsoft may, at any time (before, during or after the contest), require any participant to confirm his/her agreement to these official rules by signing a paper copy thereof by hand. Failure to sign a paper copy of these official rules by hand when Microsoft has so requested entitles Microsoft to disqualify such participant, and he/she will consequently lose all rights and prizes under these official rules.
