Software Design Engineer for Embedded Systems in the Microsoft Embedded SystemsDevelopmentCenter (MESDC)The Microsoft Embedded Systems Development Center (MESDC) in Aachen, Germany is a new regional development center supporting global product development for smart, connected, service oriented embedded devices and systems. It is part of the Windows Embedded Product Group and one of principal parties developing and enhancing Microsoft’s embedded operating systems. A strong focus is on enhancing the capabilities of connected devices, distributed systems and services, as well as advancing the support for new hardware paradigms. In the MESDC we are looking for Software Development Engineers. As a SDE you demonstrate a passion to solve problems, design solutions, and translate these into code. As part of the team you will actively participate in shaping the evolving Windows Embedded product line, design new features and services, support leading-edge hardware, and be instrumental in delivering, on schedule, advanced production quality technologies Qualifications The candidate must have commercial development experience; research experience is a plus, we expect exceptional C, C++, or C#/.NET and developer skills, excellent communication skills, a real passion for tough development questions as well as for shipping software. Knowledge of development tools, OS internals, the embedded system landscape, distributed computing, and service oriented architecture is a definite plus. The ideal candidate will have a solid record of shipping products, and working well with program management and test. Computer Scientist in Embedded SystemsThe European Microsoft Innovation Center is an incubation and innovation R&D lab working on a diverse range collaborative research projects in embedded computing, mobile networking, security, SOA, and home entertainment. In a newly established project we are working on research and development of systems and services targeting embedded systems. We are focusing on requirements such as security, reliability, power efficiency, interoperability, as well as real-time characteristics and the effect of the evolving hardware capabilities. We closely interact with various Microsoft product units and Microsoft research facilities in Europe, the United States, and Asia, as well as leading Universities, research institutes and industrial partners in Europe. In this role you will work on many levels - high level vision, architecture, and design, low-level implementation and prototyping, including deep understanding of wide range of technologies across multiple areas of the embedded systems ecosystem. Your work will look into new paradigms and programming models for embedded systems, their design, as well as verification and test. Candidates must have strong system software experience and the ability to work in a team oriented environment. In the EMIC Security team, we do research and development in the area of identity & access management, security in service composition, delegation mechanisms and information protection. In a recently established project, we are focusing on enhancements of traditional information protection mechanisms (e.g. IRM) through integration of advanced authentication and authorization mechanisms such as claims-based security models and policy languages. We closely interact with leading Universities, research institutes and industrial partners in Europe, as well as various Microsoft product units and Microsoft research facilities around the world. As a software design engineer, you will need to have strong technical skills, great customer focus, and the ability to participate in the team’s long term vision. We are looking for an experienced program manager interested in applied research with excellent team leadership, communication, software project management skills, and a proven ability to generate and realize new ideas in one or more of the following research areas: • Web services architectures Primary responsibilities include conducting applied research and set-up and execution of research projects. Innovation and creativity are key skills required to succeed. Candidates should be passionate about developing next generation software and have experience in developing complex software systems. Formal experience leading European Commission funded research is a plus. Qualifications We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated person with outstanding project management skills. The ideal candidate has excellent software design skills and the ability to conceive, plan and execute strategic objectives. The program manager takes the lead in facilitating technology transfer to Microsoft product teams. You must have appreciation for the business context, learn the product team ecosystem, the European research system, and have the ability to position your teams work in those contexts to succeed. You must be willing and able to learn and adapt to new technologies at a rapid pace. Good verbal and written English communication skills are a must.
