Project Overview

The European Microsoft Innovation Center (EMIC) is involved in collaborative research projects, working together with about 100 European partners.
We are devoting a considerable share of our attention to a number of projects within the Framework Program of the European Commission for Research and Technological Development. We work also in the context of development programs sponsored by the German Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the German Ministry of Economics and Labor (BMWA).

• "ACTIVE" - Enabling the Knowledge Powered Enterprise
  Aiming to increase the productivity of knowledge workers in a pro-active, contextualized and unobtrusive way by converting tacit and unshared knowledge transferable, interoperable and actionable knowledge.
  
  
• "Aragorn" - Adaptive Reconfigurable Access and Generic interfaces for Optimisation in Radio Networks
  Looking for a solid basis of theoretical and architectural work for next generation cognitive radios and networks
  
  
• "BREIN" - Business objective driven REliable and Intelligent Grids for real BusiNess
  Enabling the adoption of Grid computing in intra- and inter-organizational business environments
  
  
• "Consequence - Delivering a Data-centric information protection framework based on data-sharing agreements.
  An efficient, fast and seamless data exchange is vital for today's society. At the same time such exchange should not create risks of violating confidentiality and privacy that may be associated with the data. To deliver a technology that would effectively fit both of these strategic needs is an important technological as well as economical and social challenge.

  We want to increase the level of relevant content over the "noise". The problem worsens year-by-year as more and more content, including self-created content, becomes available online as well as through traditional broadcast means (delivered through satellite, over-the-air, IPTV, and cable). This is not a new problem yet it still has not been solved in a way that satisfies end-users
