Michel Van der Bel

Managing director, Microsoft UK and vice president, Microsoft International

Michel Van der Bel is managing director of Microsoft UK and vice president of Microsoft International. Michel was appointed to the role in April 2012, having previously served as chief operating officer for Microsoft in the Greater China Region.

A 13 year Microsoft veteran, Michel brings to the role a proven track record of building diverse teams, developing customer, partner and government relationships, improving sales and operational excellence, driving strategic focus on healthcare and education, and developing Microsoft’s citizenship efforts.

While in China, Michel helped grow the business to significantly transform Microsoft’s position in a key global market. Prior to that, he was vice president of public sector for Microsoft International, where he concentrated on the implementation of a consistent global public sector strategy. Between 2001 and 2006, Michel served as general manager of Microsoft Netherlands, where he worked on an integrated approach to customer and partner experience, people, and citizenship. He started at Microsoft in 1999 as a sales and marketing director and leader of the Dutch Enterprise & Partner Group (EPG).

Michel has a MBA and background in electronics. In his free time, he enjoys sport and playing the piano.
