What are parental controls?

What are parental controls?

Parental controls are software and service tools that are designed to help parents and caregivers monitor children's computer use—from filtering web content and managing email contacts to setting boundaries for socializing online.

Designed to promote a child's online safety, these tools are also sometimes called family settings or family safety settings.

There are built-in family safety settings in Windows 7, Windows Vista, Xbox 360, Xbox Live, Bing, and other Microsoft products.

You can also download the free Family Safety Filter from Windows Live Family Safety.
