LIA'S MESSAGE:
Hi Everyone,
March Break is upon us! I hope you all have wonderful plans this month, and will take some time for a much needed break from our Canadian winter. I invite you to explore some Dell and HP devices loaded with Windows 8 capabilities – the participants of our Windows in the Classroom (WiC) program have given us great feedback on them and I’d love to hear what you think. For those of you travelling in the next few weeks, be safe, and enjoy your time away. I’m looking forward to the Microsoft Education Global Forum in Barcelona this month, and can’t to share the highlights with you next month.

Lia De Cicco Remu
Director, Partners in Learning Canada

Mark Di Tamasso & Niagara Catholic District School Board (NCDSB) Demonstrate Success with Tablets

In partnership with Microsoft Canada, eLearning Consultant Mark Di Tamasso for the Niagara Catholic District School Board (NCDSB) rolled out Surface to his board in a project that revealed preference over laptops in the classroom when used to support 21st Century Learning. Teachers preferred the portability, longer battery life and a tablet with usb functionality and both teachers and students alike had great remarks about the positive on the use of tablets to support 21st Century Skills. The Surface Pro scored top marks as the preferred tablet. See Mark's Learnings

SCHOOL SPOTLIGHT

École secondaire Cavelier De LaSalle

Principal Julie Lavigne and Pedagogical Advisor Catherine Houle from École secondaire Cavelier De LaSalle are excited about their new designation as a 2014 Microsoft Mentor School. Mentoring is a strong component of Cavelier de La Salle’s program. Catherine mentors her teachers to increase participation in technology projects and Julie often speaks at francophone conferences to share their learnings.

Every classroom has an electronic white board with access to Lync, which enables classrooms to connect and collaborate with classes in other countries. Global connectivity is important to the École as staff and students connect with other International Baccalaureate programs and members of Organization Internationale Des Écoles Communautaires Enterpreneurales Conscientes.

Queen's University and Office 365

When the IT staff at Queen’s University IT Services was looking to replace its old email and calendaring system, they looked to the education team at Microsoft to help create a hybrid cloud solution with Office 365 to meet the needs of faculty and students. The result has been reduced costs and increased productivity.
