TEACHER SPOTLIGHT

Angela Scarano-Iuorio

Angela Scarano-Iuorio , the Assistive Technology Central Coordinator with Toronto District School Board (TDSB) selected Microsoft’s OneNote program for a pilot project to support the success of special education students. The goal of the project is to increase successful transition of special needs students from intermediate to secondary schools.

Angela is leading the team of itinerant teachers that are responsible for implementing the Microsoft OneNote Project for Special Education students in grades 7&8 as well as Secondary Classrooms. Angela quotes “Our experience is that the only way to meaningfully integrate new technology into a person’s life is to prove its value to them.”

It will put a smile on your face: Take a look at TDSB’s “OneNote pilot montage” staring their super, amazing students :).

SCHOOL SPOTLIGHT

Ecole St. Angela

Ecole St. Angela is a K-6 French Immersion School located in Edmonton Catholic School District (ECSD). Part of their mission is to prepare their children for the future, for the rights and responsibilities of citizenship and for daily life in a rapidly changing world. As a school in ECSD they are continuing their journey to become an Microsoft Innovative School by developing and supporting social justice projects such as Change for Children through their World Hunger Games Project.

This year Ecole St. Angela has broadened their technology to include Windows 8 with HP EliteBooks. In January they will be participating in a Windows in the Classroom (WiC) session.

Assistive Technology OneNote Project

This special education project implemented by the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) is a unique professional development strategy. With all staff and students having access to OneNote, it starts with an introductory training session for teachers with hands-on exposure to the technology, then the itinerant teachers work directly with the teachers and students throughout the school year to develop Individualized Education Plans, share excellent practices, provide job-embedded modeling of how to incorporate OneNote into the curriculum, and support peer learning with other special education teachers.
