Office 365 provides opportunity for rapid global expansion

Working with three colleagues, I co-founded the Foreign Exchange brokerage business back in 2005. Designed to assist both private and corporate clients transfer currency whilst making savings on exchange rates, FC Exchange has grown very quickly from a small office with four people based in North London, to a thriving City based firm accounting for over 30 staff. We have satellite offices in Cyprus, Spain and France and will be opening our next office in Australia this summer. We currently turnover £250m.
I really appreciate the value of Microsoft Office 365. Especially as during our time in North London, we were drastically affected by the Buncefield Oil Storage Depot disaster in 2005. The series of explosions and raging fire led to the business park where our office was located to be closed, and no one could access the building, let alone data and documents, for three entire days. This of course was business critical to us as the company was still in its infancy.
If I had Microsoft Office 365 back then, business continuity would have been assured despite the physical office shutdown, as Office 365 enables me to work virtually from anywhere and offer a faultless service to my customers. I was actually in Paris last week, but with Office 365, I can work seamlessly, so I was accessing my emails and working as usual - just as if I was sat at my desk back in London.
What made me choose Office 365? I’m already comfortable with Microsoft tools and so is our partner, Macnamara ICT, who helped us plan and implement our full transition. Macnamara knows our business, understands our pace of change and recommended Office 365 as an ideal fit to support our business ambitions. An added bonus is the fact that it also easily integrates with our existing systems– such as CRM and task management – and it comes with a really flexible licensing structure.
I can honestly say, without Office 365, our rapid growth would have been difficult. It makes it so simple to increase headcount swiftly anywhere in the world; we can set up the new Australian office quickly from our London HQ and the costs are not prohibitive.
Microsoft Lync has bridged the geographical gap for us and has proved essential for conferencing - especially with our overseas satellite offices. SharePoint within Office 365 offers incredible functionality and we use it extensively for document management, sharing calendars, as well as currency broker and client updates. And of course, I have peace of mind as its all securely backed up and supported by Microsoft.
