The use of ecommerce solutions is becoming increasingly important to small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), it has been suggested.
According to Forbes, such companies will continue to face a difficult economic environment in 2013, and the internet will be one of their main assets as they look to drive trade.
The news provider explained that ecommerce payment processing sales have grown at a rate of between 15 and 20 per cent over the last year.
At the same time, bricks and mortar sales have fallen, it added.
"An ecommerce site is essential, not only to take payments but also to allow a business to be found online," Forbes claimed.
"Those without a website are at a significant disadvantage."
The news provider said this applies not only to 'big box retailers' and major service providers, but also to local SMBs and their competitors.
"The ability to be found and highlighted through a local internet search is a necessity these days," it added.
In a recent article for Bdaily, invention support business Innovate Design said the development of the web has revolutionised how new product infrastructure and interest is built up.
