Public relations (PR) can provide a boost to small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) in a number of ways, it has been claimed.
Writing for SmallBusiness.co.uk, Carolyn Hughes said it is "not unusual" for SMBs to be wary of PR, as very often they do not understand what it is, what an agency does, and whether they need it or not.
But she claimed that most SMBs need a level of PR support at some point, as good media relations can have a variety of benefits.
These include creating awareness with your customer base - telling people about events, new products and/or services, and what your company is doing to add greater value to people's lives.
Ms Hughes advised that PR can also help businesses build their brand values, which can help establish a loyal customer base.
Other potential benefits include gaining trust, authenticity and credibility, and developing a positive online reputation.
"The beauty of online PR is that the articles and mentions of your business are there to stay," Ms Hughes told the news provider.
"Your business will continue to reap the benefits of these for the foreseeable future. By continually creating a bank of articles and features about your company and what you do, you increase the likelihood of new customers finding you via search, over time."
