Unified communications (UC) supports the effective collaboration and dissemination of information, it has been claimed.
According to 365iT Services, the integration of real-time communication services such as instant messaging, telephony, video conferencing and data sharing can make a real difference to business users in this way.
The firm said UC facilitates the instant sharing of information "to create a tightly knit network of professionals within an organisation that have the expertise they need at their fingertips".
For example, when a new employee joins a company, they can be set up with a profile that quickly allows them access to the right contacts and information.
Previously it may have taken months for the individual to absorb this, through a series of induction courses, 365iT Services stated.
"Expanding from there, UC allows virtual workgroups and teams-on-demand to hit the ground running," it claimed.
According to Peter Howells, managing director at 365iT, UC will be one of the primary applications deployed across the cloud within the next 18 months.
This means more firms will be seeking unified communications-as-service, delivered remotely by a third-party specialist - such as Microsoft - over the internet.
