It is not just large corporations and organisations that can take advantage of bring your own device (BYOD) schemes, according to one commentator.
Writing for Smart Company, Combo founder David Markus said small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) can also benefit from allowing employees to use their own smartphones and tablets in the workplace.
He claimed that being device-ready is "a huge business opportunity" that SMB business owners should be taking advantage of.
"No matter what industry you are in there are mobile, device-based apps or cloud-based tools that can liberate your team," Mr Markus said.
"Your sales staff really do not need to spend much time in the office and the business owner should have full visibility of where they are and how their sales are progressing."
He said the right use of tools gives small companies measurement and accountability.
It also provides the freedom to do the things they need, on a daily basis, from any location using a connected device, Mr Markus claimed.
He highlighted the importance of SMBs taking steps to ensure the security of their IT networks, just as any other company would when embracing BYOD.
"The good news is that there are now tools that allow the IT department to do efficient mobile device management which can allow IT to set security profiles, push out applications, remote wipe devices and so on," Mr Markus added.
"If you are too small to have an IT department there are service providers who do this along with server and PC support or cloud solution administration."
As such, the move to BYOD mobile working need not create additional work for time-pressured sales staff.
