Use customer reviews when choosing a hosting firm

One of the best ways to distinguish between reputable and disreputable hosting providers is to read customer reviews, it has been claimed.

Writing for, AJ Kumar said online reports can be "an excellent resource" in evaluating web hosts.

He noted that any fly-by-night host can put up a professional-looking sales page and make bold promises.

And businesses need to ensure they are not scammed by a company presenting itself as a reputable hosting provider, Mr Kumar added.

He urged potential buyers to search for multiple reviews from current or past customers, as this is the best way to gain an accurate impression of the firm's service quality.

Mr Kumar said a single positive review could have originated from the company's own marketing department, and therefore be entirely subjective.

If there are multiple positive reviews of the company's services, companies should be able to sign up with much greater confidence.

According to Mr Kumar, there are a number of other factors businesses should consider when taking out a hosting deal.

These include cost, customer support, storage and bandwidth allowances, and script support.
