SMBs need an internet presence to maximise trade

Small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) can use the internet to make their company look much larger than it is in reality, one expert has claimed.

Writing for Business 2 Community, internet expert Mike Rastiello said SMBs can have "a hard time" competing with larger companies on the high street.

They are simply unable to match their "unlimited advertising budgets and bargain basement prices", he noted.

But Mr Rastiello explained that the internet gives SMBs an opportunity to level the playing field - if they are able to market themselves successfully.

He suggested that too often, it is difficult to find information on local shops over the internet, and this in itself may cost sales.

"The more information you provide, the better you are showing off your business. Not including vital information like a phone number or store hours may mean that your business will get passed up for one that does," Mr Rastiello stated.

"Photos are also important. If your store looks cool, hip or inviting, it will attract people to your store over stores that don’t have any photos at all."

He said SMBs need to make sure they are "well represented online", to claim a share of the vast ecommerce economy.
