Small and medium-sized businesses could miss out on sales over the Christmas period if they do not have an ecommerce offering, it has been claimed.
Patricia Davidson, author, online consultant and founder of thesiteguide.com, said it is vitally important for such companies to have a fast and reliable website, which allows consumers to order goods and services.
Citing figures from Experian Hitwise, she said Monday December 3rd is set to be the biggest day in the history of online business, with spending likely to be up a third on last year.
But companies will only be able to claim a share of this online spending if they have invested time and resources into their websites, Ms Davidson stated.
"As always, there will be those retailers who will be ready for the onslaught and those who won't be," she commented.
"Those with a well-marketed, multi-channel approach to online with a wide range, competitive prices, an easy to navigate website, and with a hassle-free and fast checkout process will be the winners."
Ms Davidson said that unless businesses take steps to improve their websites, they will be left behind by their rivals.
"It's time to take action," she stated.
