The rise of tablet computing is one of the key changes in enterprise technology of recent times, it has been claimed.

Daniel Backhaus, marketing vice-president at digital agency Infuz, said the popularity of touch-screen devices is threatening the traditional PC market.

Writing for Business 2 Community, he said growth in the media tablet market is set to continue into 2013.

He suggested that an ever growing range of devices will encourage businesses and consumers to embrace the trend.

"The biggest change threatening the traditional desktop or notebook computer is the rise of tablet computing," Mr Backhaus argued.

He expects the popularity of mobile computing in general to increase next year - with smartphones and other related devices gaining traction.

"There has been much talk about the rise of the mobile internet and it looks like the oft-heralded 'Year of Mobile' may finally be upon us in 2013," Mr Backhaus stated.

He said companies now need to take a "hard look" at their digital strategies, with a serious consideration towards device diversity.

This is because mobile computing is "here to stay" and will only become more important in the coming years, the expert claimed.
