Too many businesses are failing to collaborate effectively, costing them vital productivity, it has been suggested.
Research conducted by Filigree Consulting on behalf of SMART Technologies found that just 29 per cent are taking advantage of such solutions.
The survey indicated that 90 per cent of collaboration users see greater value from such tools than other technology investments.
Yet all too many companies are overlooking the benefits of collaboration tools.
SMART Technologies said these include an accelerated rate of innovation, faster and more informed decision making, increased productivity, enhanced customer experience and reduced travel costs.
Jeff Lowe, vice-president of the firm, said the research highlights global best practices, addresses the value achieved by incorporating collaboration technologies into workspaces and provides key insights into what leading organisations are doing to enhance the way they work.
He suggested that achieving the highest value from collaboration requires a strategy that deploys integrated solutions, supporting services and best practices.
IT analyst IDC expects the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) unified communications and collaboration market to see strong growth over the next five years.
The sector will reach a value of £7.2 billion by 2016, up from £4.2 billion in 2011, the firm predicted.
