Businesses may be able to increase output by automating key processes, it has been suggested.
In an article for Business 2 Community, Edel Flood said it has never been more important to cut costs due to the current economic climate.
"This is especially crucial for small organisations that usually have tighter margins and less bargaining power than larger companies," she stated.
Ms Flood said process automation is an aspect of efficiency that small business leaders often shy away from, since it may result in job losses.
"However, automating key processes such as manufacturing and labelling can really go a long way towards saving you both time and money, and can mean you get the initial outlay back many times over," he stated.
"You needn’t think this has to be a large undertaking, either."
Business should start by using technology to perform simple tasks, and see how much of a difference this takes, Ms Flood said.
She claimed that if company bosses are happy with the results, they can go further and automate some of their other operations.
This may free up employees to focus on other tasks which can add value elsewhere in the business.
